    Find or Search Problem

I've tried to use the Find & Search tools on both Adobe Reader 8 and 9 to find words and selected text in a downloaded pdf document. It has failed to find words I know exist in the document; always returning zero find.
Checking the original document properties I find the PDF Producer is 'Acrobat Distiller 6.0 (Windows), and the PDF Version is 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x)(If that makes sense to anyone)
      Any solutions anyone please?

Copy a bit of the text containing a search term that Find ought to
find, and paste it into Notepad. You may find that there are spaces
between the letters or other anomalies, in which case it's the fault
of who (or what) -ever is producing the PDF.

You also may find that you can't select any text with the selection tool which would tell you that the PDF is a scan and there is no live text to search for.

OK Guys, you seem to have cracked it and I guess it is a scan even though it appears to be a pdf. document i.e. it opens with Adobe and the file saves with a pdf. icon. Copying into Notepad or trying to copy or use the selection tool results in a series of transparent boxes.
Isn't life just too hard on times!!

              Thanks and regards,
