Can anybody confirm that this update works with the trial version as well?
I am using the CS3 trial right now, i was able to download and install the 8.02-patch but AE behaves exactly the same as before, p2-footage(mxf/xml-files) is not recognized as a valid format!
Can anybody help me on this?
Id really like to test this until my trial expires in 5 days...this workflow with native p2 and AAF import is really important to my workflow..whis will make my decission over upgrading to CS3 or not..so please help!
p.s.if somebody of the Adobe-team is listening: will there be a new AE CS3-trial that comes directly with the 8.02 version?
Is anyone else having trouble getting this update (8.02) to install? I've tried twice and it has failed both times. Once I used the Adobe Updater inside After Effects and the second time I downloaded the patch directly from Adobe. (I deleted all of my temporary files between these sessions.) I'm told I have to "reinstall" After Effects CS3 and then try again.
I just went through a miserable time trying to get a Device Central Update to install (FlashLite 3.0). I had to edit the registry to give Device Central Full Administrator Permission to get this update to install.
Is there any chance there's a similar problem with the new After Effects update?
On Edit: I am running Windows XP Pro with all service packs and updates.
Our after effects cs3 8.0.2 also don't recognize p2 .mxf files... anyone knows what's happening with me and Peter Buergie softwares ?
The After Effects demo doesn't support MPEG, as is described in the Read Me file. The same probably goes for MXF.

Have you looked at the P2 workflow guide:

Yes Jonas, I've realized that there's some new cs3 functionalities that works only on intel based macs... p2 import is one of them...
shame that this is not easily found in docs...
There is a lot of conflicting and/or otherwise terrible info being posted as workarounds to getting the ae cs3 801 and 802 update to actually install. I have read everything from reinstalling the entire creative suite, to writing a custom script that disables the app running list in the config.xml. Hahaha what?! Tech support seems to need a week off...
Ok here's how to get it to install:
#1: go here and delete everything in it--> **user>appdata>local>temp>patcher** (this is in Vista...xp users will get there via c:\docs and settings...)
#2: install the update (it will fail
#3: go to **user>appdata>local>temp>patcher** again and you will see 2 new folders named PATCHER[some number here; ex: Patcher470]. Look in these for a folder named INSTALLER. Once you find it, double click on:
Voila- ae cs3 will now update to 8.0.2.
It's as easy as that.
This update fix the crashes of the full version on Windows Vista when I want import files like: .mpeg, .avi, .mov ???
I had Windows Vista Home Premium, after format....I have now Windows Vista Ultimate SP1, and still have the same problem........is a After Effects CS3 issue. Can anybody help me ? Thanks in advance
I import all those often and never an issue. I have the same OS as well (ult. x64). What video card do you have?
My machine features:
Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bits
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.5 Ghz
2 GB DRR2 (667 mhz)
160 Hard Disk
Video card Intel X3100 up to 388 MB (I can run games like COD2, Battlefield 2, Quake 4 in full graphics, Aero Windows Vista, etc....and programs like Adobe Premiere and entire CS3 packet without throuble). Is a HP dv6626US
I don't think that my video card is the issue..... I thing is VISTA (because when I try import a JPG of 70 Kb....I have the same problem)
But when I open up an example project (that cotains .mov videos and images) I don't have one single problem! I can view all perfect, the problem is only when I want to IMPORT (I can EXPORT good too)
Please help me, Thanks !!!!
Nah brother, your 388 mb is of virtual/shared memory, not dedicated video/texture memory. This thing is a low range laptop, and should not be expected to run the majority of heavy-hitter 2d/3d apps. You're also not running Quake 4 on high settings on that system either. You could have gotten a dell workstation thing with a core2 quad and 3gb memory for a few hundred more than tht laptop. Your laptop is a core duo but its a centrino. This isn't the machine on which to do any video work at all.
Sure it may not perform as a workstation, but that computer should still be workable. Especially with Ram dirt cheap these days, I'd strongly recommend you maxing out the ram (hopefully it'll take 4gig). You may need to replace all your chips, but you can probably find 4gig laptop memory for $75-$200.
Not sure with your import problems. I'm running Vista Enterprise and AE CS3 with no problems. Maybe try renaming your prefs file to .bak; when you restart AE it creates a new one. That fixed crashes on import in early versions of AE.
PS. Rather than File/Export, you should use the render queue/make movie/ctrl-m.
Absolutely do NOT get 4 gb memory as your 32 bit vista will recognize only 3 gb MAX. The 4th gb is a waste of $40. The centrino cpu is most likely not 64-bit enabled, so even if you got your hands on 64-bit version of vista(one that can use more than 3 gb) it won't even install.
With that weak video, his AE experience will be hurting big time. Vista is already eating up a good chunk of his 2 gb; maybe he'd be better off using winsows xp.
Actually Vista 32 (and other 32bit OS, including XP and 2000) will use up to 4gig max. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/aa366778.aspx Because it's shared with OS and devices (including video card), you can expect to use about 3.25 gig. Keep in mind your 32bit app will only use 2gig by default.
Centrino is a platform, not a cpu. Depending on which dual core processor you have will determine if it's x64 or not. http://www.intel.com/products/centrino/compare.htm
I agree the video card is weak. But it should still be able to run AE, although I wouldn't expect much from OpenGL. Try using adaptive instead.
Using 4 gb and actually having access to that 4 gb is another story. Invisible processes using your excess over 3 gb in 32 bit vista does nobody any good. If you can't actually USE it, it's a waste and you may as well stick with 3 gb.
I've lived through the 32 bit 3 gb limit and so had to upgrade to vista x64 to use my 6 gb ram. I've alkso read the 2gb limit workarounds for AE but thankfully never had to resort to them.
As I also said, I doubt THAT laptop's centrino is x64 capable because it is not one of those laptops designed for performance.
* your 388 mb is of virtual/shared memory -- I know
* is a centrino --- I Know (motherboard, chisept, cpu and lan: intel)
new data: new driver developled for intel for my video card, make it more fast in apps
I undestand that is not the best machine for video edition...but....AE shuld be work without problems with this hardware.....Aboe Premiere CS3 works fine, Muvee programs, Sony Soundforge, DVD editors, and others heavey load programas works. I mean, is not a profesional program from "Magics & Lights", right? Thanks for your help dude.
Thanks for your advices David, I will try that.
what you mean with this "Try using adaptive instead." ? Thanks
Look up Jonas' site and try following his tips for AE 7 (still applicable for cs3). Try removing opengl plugin from plugins directory.
Adaptive allows for better scrolling thru timeline by lowering quality. Opengl is better for 3d navigation, but might not work with your videocard.
a) Try removing opengl plugin from plugins directory. --- don't work
b) I've erased my "profile" folders, AE CS3 create again the folder and files but I still have the seame error.....
Please HELP, more ideas? I can use my AE CS3 :(
Thanks in advance guys,
OK... I'm on the latest version of OSX Leopard 10.5.4 and I keep trying to install this 8.0.2 After Effects update, but it keeps on freezing half way through and freezes the whole computer, it never completes... has anyone been experiencing the same issue? What's the solution?
Anyone can help me with my issue ?!!
I try AE CS3 with Windows XP SP2 (in one Desktop PC DELL Dimension 3000 (512 RAM, PENTIUM 4 2.2Ghz, AND OnBoard video card) like my HP dv8826us!!! and.....I can import movies and pictures!! I don't have one single problem!
Why my AE CS3 (in my HP dv6626us) crash when I want to import any file?? I can't understand this, please guys I need your help...
So does ANYBODY have a working version of this update???? i see everyone with the same problem and nothing seems to be resolved.
i'm on the latest version of OSX Leopard 10.5.4 with an intel based Mac and i've tried reinstalling after effects 3 times so far with the same problem.....the damn update keeps freezing halfway through the process and i am forced to power off my cpu from the back of the machine because it locks up the whole thing.
i've wrote support an email detailing my problem and have gotten ZERO response.....so did i just waste my money or what?? i need this update to be able to edit MXF files from my camera.
Running 8.02 on Vista Enterprise at work with no problems. Installed no problem.. Hmm.. Something's better on Vista than Leopard? Can't be..
There's really only one course of action with your Update issue.
Uninstall all Adobe Products. Run the Adobe CS3 Cleanscript. Manually seek and delete any residual Adobe files.
Restart. Reinstall After Effects (or associated bundle). Install updates.
If the problem persists, you need to contact Adobe Support and arrange to send them the Installation Log File so they can determine the problem.
I sympathise - I've been through exactly the same process. I had CS3 Master Collection installed on a Mac Pro, but exactly the same installation on my MacBook Pro would hang whenever trying to update Flash.
I must say the current installation engine Adobe uses seems full of problems.
It's not the only solution at all. it's the complicated, unnecessary solution.
Search for my posts on this subject- I have found an infinitely easier way. Go search it out.
Follow it to the letter- and make sure you clear out ALL temp internet files before you attempt to install the 8.02 update.
Unfortunately your alternate solution only applies to Windows installations. VaFilmBoy is using a Mac, and no file called Patcher exists with an Adobe installation on the Mac platform.
that was his 1st mistake.
Let's not go there.
After going back and forth with adobe support I finally figured it out on my own and the update installed FINALLY.
Here's what I did:
Downloaded the update from the adobe website.
I booted up from safe mode and installed the update and it worked flawlessly.
No need to keep uninstalling/reinstalling software, etc. At least that's what worked for me.
Adobe recommended partitioning my hard drive and said they have been having issues with the mac intel's that have 1TB hard drives and were working on a solution. Luckily I didn't have to wait for their solution.
can anyone help me on how to import, cause i cant import any file, When i try to the software stucks and then it closes.
Please help me my mail is firstname.lastname@example.org
I had that problem on my Mac awhile back and launching with the Option key pressed to reset AE seemed to help. No more crashes.
