Did you interpret the file correctly? Sounds like a framerate mismatch or pulldown issue. What is the source footage CoDec and resolution?
yea, to create a new composition all i did was drag the mov file into the composition symbol so it would automatically adjust.
the resolution, it was shot at 720pn
the codec is h.264

But it would still adjust wrongly if the source footage is not interpreted correctly... What version of AE do you use, anyway? I'm beginning to get this nasty tingling in my nostrils that tells me you are running an unqualified version on an intel Mac and Rosetta is killing your performance...
i have AECS3...whats an unqualified version of an intel Mac??? what is Rosetta??
i downloaded a couple of mov files form apple and it plays fine.
also a friend took the same mov file i'm having trouble with and he said he had no issues, he's on a PC version of AECS3
could it be the way the video is encoded? i noticed when i tried to convert the same mov files to an flv using flash cs3 video encoder it plays choppy as well
