There's no "Pros and Cons" per se. Use whatever you see fit. In general people will use combinations of effects, manual masking and other techniques to get the best results, but if it can be done in just one go - all the better. Your problems with Keylight sound like you are not working with the Rollback settings and thus your Alpha degenerates.
how do i work with the rollback settings?
Use the eyedropper to select a good sample of your key color.
Then use the Clip Black and Clip White settings to balance the key level.
If you use Keylight properly, you'll find, in most situations, it's far superior to the standard AE keyers.
well i did use it in the way andrew kramer said in the video tutorial
i guess that it is really superior thats why he choose it
but i tried a lot to do the clip white and black in i find that the out line of the character keeps getting keyed out and if i try to keey the out line of the charecter than there are some spots on the back ground
i guess i don't know how to use keylight properly
i wish i could find a video tutorial for advanced keylight use
