Nope, no way to circumvent that.
You can use RadioWaves to emit bubble shapes. It has an option for bouncing off the edges of the frame.

cool, Jonas, I had compeltely forgotten that about Radio Waves.
You can also use Foam. It creates bubbles that can be trapped within and will respond to an alpha supplied by another layer. the control layer should not be stark black and white, it needs some gray.
