That is an AVCHD camera. Does it really shoot and store 1920 x 1080? All HDV cameras store a non-square 1440 x 1080 frame.
Import a test shot, interpret it as 1920 x 1080 "Square pixels" and then drag-and-drop it onto the "New Composition" icon at the bottom of the Project panel. Does it look correct or is it stretched in any way?

so really i should just select 1440x1080 right!
@ full quality the camera is meant to shoot @ 1920x1080i but the 2nd highest setting is 1440x1080 so it might be best for me to shoot at that quality eh?
ok i am gonna try this out tonight but i dont know what the frame rate of my camera!! anyway to find this out please?
its a SONY HDR SR12 and it says 50i but that cant be 50 fps can it?
should i just input 25 please? (its a PAL camera as i am in the UK?
ok i just tried it out! i think i just had 24 for the frames and it fits nicely! widescreen and looks great! :)
so do you think this is ok please?
