    synchronizing local and remote sites

    troika22 Level 1
      Greetings

      I created a site locally and then FTPed it up to a server at my ISP. The site was working fine until I made a number of changes that I note below. When in DW and I try try to preview in a browser, I am unable to view any of the files in any browser because DW is unable to locate the files locally and remotely.

      The error message I get is:
      Firefox can't find the file at /______/______/_____/_____/ThankYouVeryMuch/Website/tyvmi 3/index.htm.

      The changes that were made to the site:

      - I reorganized my folders locally thereby creating a new root folder. When I tried to add 3 pages, I received several error messages. One of them was that DW was unable to locate the home page. Another was that it was unable to create the site map and if I'm not mistaken DW was unable to create cache files.

      - My client had a friend add some Google analytics to the site. This person also created an XML site map. Obviously, the local and web sites were not synchronized so I was receiving more error messages.

      - I then downloaded the site to a new directory in the new root folder I created above. This downloaded site is my local root directory in the Site manager and is located at ./______/______/_____/_____/ThankYouVeryMuch/Website/tyvmi 3/index.htm

      - These are my current directories for the site thankyouverymuchinc.com:

      Site name: Thank You Very Much Inc

      Local: ThankYouVeryMuch
      ----------> Website
      -------------> tyvmi 3
      ---------------> index.htm
      ---------------> pages

      Remote: host: ip address
      ----------> www/htdocs/
      ---------------> index.htm
      ---------------> pages

      Many thanks
      Marlene

              Are you sure?

              What is the path to your local root folder? And what do you see in the
              address field of the browser when you try to preview and get the file not
              found error?

              Are you using Frames, by any chance?

                Hello

                I'm fairly certain i do not have a testing server defined. When I go into Manage Site/Testing Server, I have none selected for server model and access.

                I am not using frames on the site, thankyouverymuchinc.com.

                The path to my local root folder is:
                Macintosh OSX/Documents/• Projects/Clients/ThankYouVeryMuch/Website/tyvm 3/index.htm

                The address field of the browser when i try to view it and get the file not found error is:
                file:///Macintosh%20OSX/Documents/%C2%A5%20Projects/Clients/ThankYouVeryMuch/Website/tyvmi %203/index.htm

                  Is there really a question mark in the folder name?

                  Macintosh OSX/Documents/? Projects

                  That's a potential problem. Can you rename that folder?

                    Hello
                    I renamed the directory to projects. It was originally • Projects.

                    I received the following error messages repeatedly when I set the local set and image info to this newly named directory:

                    WARNING: The selected folder does not contain the current site's home page. The site cannot be built.

                    The cache will now be recreated because the name, root folder, HTTP address, or cloaking settings of the site have been changed.

                    The good news is that I can now preview my pages through DW in a browser.

                    How might I remedy this warning message regarding the home page. The home page is in the directory I set in the site manager.

                    Thanks
                    Marlene

                      Open this site definition for editing.
                      click the Advanced tab to do this quicker.

                      in the SiteMap section, change the location of this site's "homepage"
                      It will have the old info with the ? in the folder name.

                      Also double check the Local Info section->Default Images folder location if
                      you filled that out earlier.

                        Or right click on the file that is the home page in DW's FILES panel, and
                        elect to set it as the home page.
