Have you tried Effects->Distort->Optics Compensation?
Yes, there is one.
Extremely overpriced, but exactly made for the purpose you need.
I am already using fulldome plugins, both the Navegar plugin http://fulldomeplugin.multimeios.pt as well as another from Skyskan. These plugins are great for warping images to use on a dome.
But what I am after is something that will give the 3d camera in After Effects a fisheye lens. It is currently limited to a 179.7 degree field of view and it really needs to be a fisheye to work properly.
Ah, I see. No, that can't be done. For that you'll have to resort to a 3D program that actually allows "bending" evaluation rays in the manner you describe with raytracing. Any scanline/ linear shading algorithm such as the one in AE is unable to cope with such scenarios for simple mathematical reasons.
Thanks Mylenium. Good to know I can stop looking for this mythical beast.
