That's about the best I can get this to draw... Ignore the .. - had to put them in to space out the lines.. Basically, I think you're getting an upsidedown U shape in your graph; it speeds up and then slows down. You want yours to start off flat and then gradually slow; you can achieve that by dragging the first handle up. Also, play with the lengths of the curves.
I'm sorry but I don't really know what you mean...? Which handle? In which editing mode?
When I open the editor it looks like this:

Edit: Oh okay I didn't see the text under your 'graphic' :-D You're talking about the speed curve, right?
Yeah, I had to reedit the post a couple of times :P
I think you'll understand time remapping better in the graph editor by looking at the speed graph. Looks like you were using value, based on your curve.
