          Press return, not Enter.

              Are you using a Mac?

              From the "View or change layer information" section of After Effects Help on the Web:

              "To rename a layer or property group, select it in the Timeline panel and press Enter on the main keyboard (Windows) or Return (Mac OS)."

              > i also cant open help file (F1)...

              That's odd, and clearly the sign of a problem, but you shouldn't be using the Help document installed on your hard disk, anyway. As long as you've got an Internet connection, use After Effects Help on the Web (LiveDocs): http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/AfterEffects/8.0 . When you don't have a connection, use the PDF version, which you can download from here: http://www.adobe.com/go/documentation . The PDF version is updated as often as the LiveDocs version. The version of Help that you get when you press F1 is out of date, has many errors, and does not include the hundreds of links to tutorials and other resource that are in the other versions.

                  I would only assume this to happen you were using a notebook with some custom keyboard manager tool. If it happens on your normal desktop, it's probably an issue with your language settings. Which language settings do you use for sour OS? Russian? Georgian? English? Do you launch AE in English?

                    the best way to solve such problems is too look at my Desktop with TeamViewer

                      It's certainly a configuration matter with the notebook keyboard. Did you check the BIOS? Which model is it? Amilo? Esprimo? Lifebook? I know that there are certain extension packs for some of the product series, my boss went crazy over enabling some functions on his tablet notebook a while ago which all hinged on installing a special driver pack... If you can give the exact name and year of production, I could look it up and maybe I can find out what's going on.

                          Kiril, please, you need to provide more information. Nobody will be able to help you if you don't cooperate. we are all willing to go to some lengths to resolve the matter, but neither of us has any telepathic power. With notebooks anything is possible due to keyboard remapping, so unless we know something more about it, there's no way of resolving the matter. You may temporarily be able to define a new hotkey for renaming, so open your shortcut prefs file (Documents and Settings/Kiril/Application Data/Adobe/After Effects/8.0/Adobe After Effects 8.0 Shortcuts.txt) and find this section:

                          ["COutline"]
                          "Clear" = "(Delete)(FwdDel)"
                          "Rename" = "(Return)"

                          Change it to something like

                          ["COutline"]
                          "Clear" = "(Delete)(FwdDel)"
                          "Rename" = "(F1)"

                          But don't forget to unassign it:

                          "HelpAfterEffectsHelp" = "(F1)"

                          must be changed to

                          "HelpAfterEffectsHelp" = "()"
