I am having some strange problems with my new Sony XDCAM EX1 and Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro CS3.
There is supposed to be native support for XDCAM, but when I copy the mpeg4 files from my SxS card to a folder on Windows Vista, After Effects and Premiere Pro can't open them. I get a corrupt or unsupported file type. However, when I open them directly from the camera After Effects and Premiere Pro open them fine. The problem with this is the links are broken if the camera is disconnected.
Am I not supposed to just drag and drop the files from the SxS card to Windows? That is the only thing I can figure. In which case, how the heck am I supposed to get them on my PC where AE and Premier can use them.
I would tend to think that you need a special transfer tool or driver that converts/ keeps all the metadata. Directly copying may not do that as the camera will manage them independent from the actual video content... Just guessing, though.
