You don't have enough RAM to adequately run Vista, let alone After Effects. You should have a bare minimum of 1GB to use AE and expect RAM previews of anything more than a second or two. 2GB is real-world starting point.
I understand that, but I transferred Adobe After Effects to my desktop, which has 512MB of ram. It worked perfectly fine better than on my laptop.
Perhaps your laptop shares its RAM with its display card or other hardware? The point remains the same - a bare minimum of 1GB is recommended to reliably run AE.
Also, make sure you use "RAM Preview" to get real-time playback.

Andrew is right. The figures very much look like 64 MB go to your graphics processor. Ultimately that may be the issue why you ar not getting realtime due to the timing of the memory being dependent on each other...
