    How do I copy/paste filter-effects?

    superfetz
      Hi there!

I'm a totally novice here... been using this amazing program for about 14 days... but I'm starting to get the hanging of it ;-)

Anyway - I have some questions:

      1)
How do I copy/paste certain filter-effects to another object? I know how to use the "Save as style..." but I don't want to save everything little filter-effect.

      2)
Can I somehow click through the layers if I have 2 objects on top of each other and I want to get to the lowest layer?

      Thanks for your time guys!

      Cheers!

      /Henrik

You can't copy and paste effects to other objects as far as I know. Saving as a style as you've already discovered is your best bet.

As for managing items in your layers, make sure you have the layers panel open by pressing F2. It's a good idea to get into the habit of breaking your design up into many layers (masthead, navigation, left column, right column, etc). Not only does that make it easier to deal with all of the vectors and bitmaps you have floating around by locking certain portions, but it makes it a lot easier to find specific items in the layers list.

Let us know if you have any other questions, and welcome!

            Hi Joey!

Thanks for the quick response ;-)

I actually just found out that you can COPY and PASTE effects around the block. Select object that are applied with effects - "Edit/Copy" choose destination object(s) then "Edit/Paste Attributes" - Voilá :-) But I still can't figure out how to paste the color aswell...!?!

OK - then I have another one that bothers me...

How do I use the Masterpage in Pages?
Can I place certain objects that are global in all layers? For instance a topmenu or a footer?

            Cheers mate!

              Not Joey, but . . .

The Master Page is useful for common elements which will appear in the
same location on all pages, so header elements are a good idea. Footer
elements can work so long as your page dimensions on other pages is the
              same as the master page.

Color could be applied if you create a custom style.

I'm looking for the same, but where did you get the "Edit/Paste Attributes"? Is it in the main menu at the top (the "Edit" that is)?

                I got nothing there.

I found some help file online that mentions draging the "Fx" icon; but mine's not draggable at all..

                  Hi Henrik,

Firstly all the attributes including color can be copied using the Paste Attributes feature. If they are not that means that you need to use the sub-selection tool (white arrow) to access the element - copy it and then use Paste Attributes to get the exact duplicate of its attributes - This is especially true for copying properties of auto shapes.

Answering your second question. To access elements that are under you can use the Select Behind Tool (below the Pointer Tool when you click on the tiny black down arrow) or if your elements are on different layers just lock and unlock layers while working.
