Are you using the correct keys to preview?
RAM Preview (NumPad 0) will build an audio&video preview.
NumPad Period(.) key will play audio from current time indicator.
Scrubbing while holding Command/Ctrl key will scrub audio.
As Andrew mentioned, AE does not do realtime audio as in a edit suite. Use the previews to hear it in its full beauty. You can somewhat scrub audio by holding down the Ctrl key while moving the timeline indicator, but it's a bit choppy. To get a better feel for temporal relations, you can add markers during playback of audio or RAM previews by using the "x" (multiply) key on your numpad. This also helps a lot. If you have Premiere, it is also possible to chop up the project into representative pieces in the timeline and then import the Premiere Project into AE... There's a few ways to cover this.
Thank you for the suggestion. I have tried those keys.
Actually, this project was imported from Premiere. I have more experience with AFter Effects, so I thought I would work more efficently in AEFx.
I thinnk I'll just go back to Premiere and edit there.
Thanks again for your help.
