    Effect quick shortkey

      Hi folks

I've been off production for 6 months and come back to my machine being rebuilt with Vista (yuck) and AE CS3. There's some changes in CS3 that I am getting familiar with now, but I am sure there was a shortcut I used to have to apply a vertical gaussian blur filter to every shot I use without having to right click, add filter, select the preset that I've set up, etc. And with thousands of shots to process, I'd really like to remember how I did it quicker in AE7. But for the life of me I cannot remember what that shortcut was.

They've also upgraded this machine and I'm running on dual CPUs with 16 Gig of RAM. I thought CS3 was 64 bit? Dammit. I've downloaded Nucleopro trial, and about to have a play with it. What's peoples thoughts in Nucleo? The blurb on it looks like it will speed up my workflow a lot.

      Cheers

You can copy and paste effects and keyframes (select the layer with keyframed effect and tap U on the keyboard to see all keyframes.) Copy those and select the other layers and paste.

None of the CS3 applications are 64bit.
See the "Memory usage and storage" section of the After Effects Help on the Web.

Nucleo Pro is highly recommended. It uses the same trick as AE CS3's "Multi-processing" (launching several instances of the application) but it adds several indispensable features such as "Commit to disk" and you ca set it up so that it always uses all available CPU power to preview or render.

I suspect you were using the shortcut for "Apply most recently applied animation preset".

Where did you get that impression from? Nobody ever said any such thing... Only Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 2.0 are available as native 64bit apps, so this particular game is just beginning at Adobe (for very logical reasons)...

Photoshop CS4 is available? Where? Can I has it now? I've been a good boy this year, has Santa Claus come early?

Probably just that I knew we had to go CS3 to run on 64bit OS and therefore assumed that CS3 itself was 64bit. I don't read these forums much these days as I've been too busy and just tend to bounce in here when I have a problem.

I've had a play with Nucleopro and like it. Will definitely buy it on Monday.

I still can't stand Vista though. I've been messing with it for a year on a laptop and (grinds teeth) my dad's new computer and there is still stuff there that I can't stand. But it does give me access to a lot more resources so I guess I'm just going to have to tolerate it. I refused to let them install it on my Avid though :-)

That sounds like it. I'm at home at the moment but will check it out tomorrow. Thanks for that.

More properly this should have been "will be available" (LR 2 already is, though). All the info can be found in John Nack's blog.

That shortcut was the one I was looking for. And Nucleopro is onboard. Thanks guys.

In fact, with this new system and Nucleo and the speed with which Flash CS3 opens files compared to the [****] I was putting up with a year ago (10 minutes to open a 50meg .fla) it now looks like I am going to be the bottleneck rather than the render and transfer times. Thinking I might have to look at changing my workflow. I was used to waiting for things to happen. Now, for the first time in 20 years of doing this [****], I'm the bottleneck. Nice.

You can't post the word for poo on here? What's with that? When did that come in?

Apologies, but that is going a little to far in the Politically Correct world I reckon.

I still find it amazing that word is offensive. I've been posting on and off on here for well over a decade and have never been pulled up before. It's absurd. Very absurd.
