1. Re: From Trai Forrester's site.....
Ruud Blauw Jun 5, 2008 1:49 PM (in response to (Mike_C))Instead of using DLT tapes you could also submit your master as DDP images on DVD:
No DLT Machine? Writing a DL project to 2 DVD-R discs as DDP images
(Check with your replicator if they will accept a DDP image as master. Chances are good they will, but better make sure.)
Using a playable DVD+R DL as master is rather dangerous - not just for discs made with Encore. -
2. Re: From Trai Forrester's site.....
(Mike_C) Jun 5, 2008 3:52 PM (in response to (Mike_C))I've found several new DLT machines for only a few hundred dollars so I'm going to go ahead and give that a shot. I've been told that the identification problem reported above is a non issue when writing to DLT. -
3. Re: From Trai Forrester's site.....
(Daniel_Coulter) Jun 6, 2008 9:55 AM (in response to (Mike_C))Needing to burn a double-layer DVD for the first time, I purchased a refurbished Quantum DLT 4000 tape drive. I attached it to my Windows PC with a SCSI controller card. My computer sees both the SCSI controller and the DLT tape drive in my "device manager," but the DLT machine doesn't appear with the drives in "My Computer." Also, Encore 1.5 doesn't offer me the choice of saving to the DLT drive. It simply offers the two DVD burners I have on the computer. I checked with the DLT vendor, who said I need backup software to work with the DLT machine. Any input on how I can get the Quantum DLT 4000 to work with Encore 1.5? I'm using a Pentium 4 board at 3 GHz and 2 Gigs of RAM, Windows XP Pro. Encore 1.5 has been working fine burning single sided DVDs, but now I need to do some dual-layer authoring. -
4. Re: From Trai Forrester's site.....
Joe Bowden Jun 6, 2008 9:58 AM (in response to (Mike_C))You don't "burn" to DLT - you "master" to DLT.
Choose the Master command from the file menu. -

(Daniel_Coulter) Jun 6, 2008 10:08 AM (in response to (Mike_C))Got it. Using the "Master" menu option, the Quantum Drive comes up as a Device.
Thanks Much! -
6. Re: From Trai Forrester's site.....
(Daniel_Coulter) Jun 6, 2008 10:25 AM (in response to (Mike_C))I'm using the "Master" command to copy a test Encore 1.5 project to DLT tape. The project size is 5.77GB. I set the option offered to "automatic layer break." I understand from my replicator that I need to put the content for each DVD layer on a separate DLT tape. Encore's "Make DVD Master: Summary" window says the copying process will take more than an hour. Can I expect the program to pause after the first layer so I can insert the DLT tape for layer 2? -

(Daniel_Coulter) Jun 6, 2008 11:03 AM (in response to (Mike_C))To answer my own question, yes, the program paused and let me insert the second DLT tape.
