no, I'm not asking for a Wild "***" Guess (or Wild Arsed Guess in the UK), I'm asking if anyone KNOWS anything, I cannot find any info but it doesn't mean no one else knows -

There are some good answers to your questions there....also note, Encore is no longer sold stand-alone....it comes with PPro.
My hope for that would have been to include Dynamic Link between PPro and Encore (import unrendered sequences to Encore from PPro, that is). That doesn't appear to be the case...but other great stuff. The "announcement" from Adobe is today @ 3:30pm -

How many of us here have actually used this version, unless they are prohibited to talk about it under their NDA? Wait about 4 months and you can get reports from users, not the Adobe marketing material. -
7. Re: Encore CS3 - Blu-ray authoring - video formats?
maffmace Mar 27, 2007 5:27 AM (in response to maffmace)there could be info on millions of sites that I've not seen
someone above has pointed out the official site which now states h.264 as an output option, when I looked this morning that page had hardly any info on it! -

Neil Wilkes Mar 27, 2007 5:53 AM (in response to maffmace)From the website:
>Flexible input file support
Work with AVI, QuickTime, WMV, H.264, and MPEG-2 source files to build your DVD or Blu-ray Disc navigation, and then encode them as MPEG-2 or H.264 video assets when you are ready to burn your disc. -

10. Re: Encore CS3 - Blu-ray authoring - video formats?
(digitali) Mar 27, 2007 10:27 AM (in response to maffmace)darn. no HD DVD support. But AVC support is cool. Wonder why no VC-1 support. seems like most of the movies coming out on Blu-ray are VC-1 now. -

12. Re: Encore CS3 - Blu-ray authoring - video formats?
Neil Wilkes Mar 28, 2007 1:52 AM (in response to maffmace)Blu Ray is not as easy as some folks think.
Wait until you try to get these titles replicated.....you will find that only Sony can actually do the job.
To quote from our replication company - who talked directly to Sony as they wanted to get into this:
>the Sony guy was very open about Blu-ray production and replication - basically he says only Sony has the resources and time to devote to authoring and mastering the Blu-ray materials and the up fron costs (starting at £20,000 up front before any disc is made) mean that this is never going to be something for anyone other than the biggest media companies to get into. At least, not for the foreseeable future.
And that is a direct quote.
Additionally, they are also saying that Scenarist is the *only* tool they will accept content from. Still trying to find out about HD DVD replication - it is a LOT easier & cheaper to do.
Another issue with Blu Ray is that BD-R, the recordable format, will simply not play on most set top players. only PS3 will play these.
Finally, of course, Sony are also lying about the sales figures, as they have included PS3 consoles in the figure for Blu Ray players, which is sophistry. Most people buy PS3 for games, not Blu Ray playback. True BRD player figures are apparently well under 20,000 total.
They are ALSO lying about Casino Royale "sales" of over 100,000
Most of these were actually given away for free, not sold....... -

14. Re: Encore CS3 - Blu-ray authoring - video formats?
(digitali) Mar 28, 2007 7:28 AM (in response to maffmace)Wow, you're way off on your information Wilkes. I have been creating BDMV Blu-ray with the DVDit Pro HD software for months (no AVC yet like Encore is apparently going to offer though) and I have played them back on Pioneer, Sony, Panasonic and Samsung BD players. In fact the only place they won't play is in the PS3 and Sony just tried to fix that with a firmware patch but it didn't do the trick. As to replication, while I have not tried it yet, the software outputs a Blu-ray master and I have been told that the costs, while significant are nowhere near what you have quoted. The software cost me $199. I am told it is a few thousand to become an AACS licensee, a few thousand to include AACS on each layer of a disc and a few thousand for the glass master. That's $6,000. Still way too expensive, but the 20,000 pounds you quoted is just not correct. -
15. Re: Encore CS3 - Blu-ray authoring - video formats?
DVDmike Mar 28, 2007 12:55 PM (in response to maffmace)Apparently, Adobe had the same problems with playback with CS3 authored BR disks on the PS3 machine (prior to the firmware update). So I'd like to see if the firmware fixed this issue for Encore CS3 BR disks.... -
16. Re: Encore CS3 - Blu-ray authoring - video formats?
Neil Wilkes Mar 29, 2007 1:19 AM (in response to maffmace)The prices I have given are straight from Sony.
Cannot say any more than that.
I have the letter right here.
(Also, a "few thousand" three times is more than 6K. A "few" is a very vague number. Just wait until you submit masters to Sony.....)
I accept there have been firmware updates to allow BD-R discs to play on set tops, but it is still very problematic. -

Well for authoring you have to make sure the proper coded is used. Although currently I think you can use MPEG-2 there are others. CS3 Also allows for you to downconvert a Blu-Ray to DVD to check your work.
