Import Digi Images and Audio in Slideshow

    Spoot51 Community Member
I am fiddling around trying to import some stuff as "slideshow".
Having no luck when trying to import a few digital stills (1200X800) AND a single audio track (.WMA), not lossless compression. The files are all in a single folder, but when selecting all for import only the image file extensions appear as available assets to import in the slideshow. Also, only the image files appear in the folder when viewed through "Import as Slideshow" in Encore, although the audio file is definitely there when viewed in Bridge or Windows Explorer.

Is it not possible to import pictures and an audio track at one time?
      Thanks...

          Thomas.

A couple of options come to mind here.
Have you tried simply importing all the assets using a right-click in the project assets list, and simply importing into the general assets list & then setting up the slideshows afterwards?
          That should work.
Importing as slideshow is naturally not going to import any audio at all, as this is for images - you would have to add the audio afterwards.

Can I make a couple of suggestions too?
1 - Resize those images. 1200x800 is not even close to DVD Compliant.
It looks to be in 4:3 already, so should take a resize with no trouble. Also adjust resolution to 72dpi.
2 - Ditch the Lossy WMA. Not only will it need to be rersampled (assuming it is not at 48KHz already) but once Encore further recompresses it to Dolby Digital the quality drop will be horrendous.

Your import suggestions work perfectly, thanks. Regarding resampled images, what resolution do you recommend when using images which will be panned and zoomed in the slideshow?

Regarding the audio/image import question, I was trying to duplicate a method described on pp.59-60 of a book by one of the gurus who contributes here.

Quote: "As with importing a video file together as a timeline, Encore has a cool feature that lets you import your images and a single audio file as a slideshow. The audio file will be added automatically as background audio for the slideshow when it is imported. To take advantage of this feature, you will need to put the audio file in the same folder as the images before you import."

Is this statement from the book correct or incorrect?

After some tinkering, I think I have figured this out. You can import audio files along with images as a "slideshow". The audio files I was able to import were .wav files, not the lossy file mentioned in the first post. It seems that Encore only recognizes .wav, since files that I have ripped from cd's in Windows Media in lossless compression do not import. It puzzles me because the Windows lossless file size is exactly the same as a .wav file and therefore bears the same audio information. The only difference being the file extension .wma instead of .wav. Also I note you can import more than one audio file along with images from one folder, but the slideshow will play only one audio file.
On the whole it's a pretty good way to create an instant slideshow with music if that's what you need.

Still would like some help on ideas regarding "optimal" image size to import for zoom/pan.
