problems importing chapter points from PP2 AVI to Encore DVD 2

    kdlla Community Member
I have tried with markers in PP2 with numbered DVD chapter points saved the AVI, when opening in Encore DVD2 none of the chapter points are imported and need to be recreated manually.
Creating simple no menu chaptered auto-play DVD's which one could do in PP1.5 but this function isn't in PP2, I guess Adobe wants to force PP2 users to buy Encore DVD2, which I have but no creating so much more unnessecary work for me and valuable time lost.
If there is a function to export and import the chapter points assets i have looked everywhere in PP2 and PP1.2 without any luck.

found this in some Encore DV review:
"Adobe Premiere Pro integration: Import AVI and MPEG-2 files from Adobe Premiere Pro for use in DVD projects. Adobe Encore converts markers to DVD chapter points."
      ? how?

          1. You cannot use PPro 2.0's new DVD markers as chapter markers in Encore. They are for use in PPro only.

          2. You must use unnumbered sequence markers.

          3. You must add text to the "Chapter" field in the marker properties. You get there by moving the CTI to an unnumbered marker, right-clicking the marker and choosing "Edit Sequence Marker".

            dear Jeff

there is no option to edit a sequence marker only an option to set in and out.

no option to to edit an unnumbered marker.

this is not in the help files, nor premiere pro 2 classroom in a book, nor in the Encores DVD 2 manual or help file. searched the web.....

so tell me why did the function for creating chaptered non menu DVDs function in PP2 got deleted?

If you double-click the marker, you can enter a chapter name. That's what you need to do, with an unnumbered sequence marker.

              >so tell me why did the function for creating chaptered non menu DVDs function in PP2 got deleted?

              Huh? Nothing got deleted...

                KLucka,

                You participated in this topic:

Was there anything about it that you didn't understand? Be specific and maybe we can figure out exactly what you need from PPro and Encore.

                  Dear Jeff

thank you for clarifing this I was told to "RIGHT CLICK" on the chapters, and this doesn't give you this renaming option.

nor is this mentioned in any of the tutorials or help files.

The general impression with other users on the Matrox RTX100 bulletin board is that the auto run with chapters has been discontinued.

Thank you for finally clarifying this, it will save me a lot of time in the future.

I'm doing a test right now.

NO it still does NOT work, I numbered each chapter output to DVD and can not create a auto play no menu chaptered DVD in PP2,

maybe only to export it to Encore DVD with chapter points, which I will test next.

By the way does the progressive DVD output give better results than VBR and CBR? I made comparative tests but don't really find a difference. I have a progressive DVD player.

                    KLucka,

As you discovered, right-click won't work. I gave you bad information, and I fear that I have confused the issue. I'm sorry.

                    So let me sum up:

                    1. Joe was right, the fastest way to access the Chapter field in the marker properties for a sequence marker in Premiere Pro is to double-click the marker. If you park the CTI at the marker, you can also choose Marker>Edit Sequence Marker from the menu toolbar.

                    2. There is a bug in PPro 2.0 that will not let you create AutoPlay DVDs that have chapter markers from the PPro timeline. If you want AutoPlay, you don't get chapters. If you want chapters (in PPro) then you have to add a menu. Note that this scenario doesn't involve Encore at all.

                    3. Exporting chapter markers from PPro 2.0 for use in Encore 2.0 works just like it did in the 1.5 versions of those 2 programs. You have to have text in the Chapter field of the PPro unnumbered sequence marker properties. You get to a marker's properties like I described in step 1.

                    HTH,
                    Jeff

More than a year later, Hunt asks:

I realize that this is really a PP2 question, but, rather than quoting all of the thread (already in Encore2 Forum), and asking in PP2, I just clipped onto this thread.

Just for my edification, why would one want to add Chapter Markers to a Sequence, that would be burned directly to DVD without a Menu?

Thanks for helping with my "education."

You would do that to offer the viewer the option to jump through the video at e.g. a 5 minute interval, as an alternative to fast forwarding.

                          Ruud,

Thanks for the instruction. Now I see.
