1. Re: Menu Problem...Naming Issue
Joe Bowden Feb 28, 2006 11:46 AM (in response to Mediadude8)It's a new feature in Encore 2.0. More info in this thread:
jbowden, "Menu text changes when links are made" #1, 28 Jan 2006 8:59 am
The upshot is if you don't want the behavior, you must select all the buttons, then uncheck 'Sync Button Text & Name' in button properties. -
2. Re: Menu Problem...Naming Issue
Mediadude8 Feb 28, 2006 11:55 AM (in response to Mediadude8)I just found that button and it wouldn't let me edit again. could you tell why you would use this feature? My naming structure is like this: Plastic-Face-Main.psd Plastic-Body.psd its for a plastic surgery video. I guess some people name it the exact way they want it to appear? Thanks for the reply Joe...besides that scare, I'm lovin encore 2.
PS: That would be a nice setting in preferences to globally turn off. I have 103 menus -
3. Re: Menu Problem...Naming Issue
Joe Bowden Feb 28, 2006 12:01 PM (in response to Mediadude8)It has two functions: the main one is to match the chapter name to the button name and text layer (handy if you create chapter markers in PPro 2 and name them there as you want the button text to correspond); the other function is it's important for creating a chapter index menu, which Encore automates based on a single menu with the appropriate buttons.
In any case, the feature is such that it only renames when you link a button to a timeline/chapter, so you should always be able to edit the button text at any time regardless of the state of the 'Sync Button Text & Name' checkbox, as long as what you're editing is a text layer (e.g. not rasterized). -
4. Re: Menu Problem...Naming Issue
Mediadude8 Feb 28, 2006 12:07 PM (in response to Mediadude8)And there lies the problem. I came across a main menu (have two..one for AE comp and one still version of the same thing)that I rasterized the text...to get it ready for AE. Thanks for the great explaination...as usual -
5. Re: Menu Problem...Naming Issue
Mediadude8 Feb 28, 2006 12:19 PM (in response to Mediadude8)It still doesn't work for me. I went back into PS and loaded the buttons with non rasterized text, back to Encore, drag the pick whip from contact us button to the contact menu and the button gets renamed "Main Layers", which is the name for my main layer. All of the other menus have unrasterized text. I author my DVD's like a power point presentation with informational screens and 3 videos as well. thoughts? -
6. Re: Menu Problem...Naming Issue
Joe Bowden Feb 28, 2006 12:41 PM (in response to Mediadude8)I'm afraid I may not be following correctly. You link a button to a button in another menu? That's a different case.
If you select the text with the Text tool, you should be able to type new text in. -
7. Re: Menu Problem...Naming Issue
Mediadude8 Feb 28, 2006 1:03 PM (in response to Mediadude8)Correct, I link a button to a button in another menu,so that when brought to a page, the highlight is on the most logical place the viewer would go. I did try just dragging to a menu and got the same result. I just turned off the link/name button for now. tedious, but gets it done.
