1. Re: Codec Troubleshooting Issue
Neil Wilkes Apr 2, 2008 12:43 AM (in response to Stan Jones)SOunds like a problem with the Sherlock utility to me.
If it caused a functionality issue, then it would be an Adobe bug - but as it doesn't....... -

Stan Jones Apr 2, 2008 3:08 AM (in response to Stan Jones)I agree. And it suggests using a different utility instead of Sherlock. In the following thread, adobe support apparently pointed a user to a free utility that not only lists codecs but will remove and register them:

This is the link to the "DirectShow Filter Utility."

But, as illustrated by that thread, using the "extra" quote marks for these few codecs has led to confusion for users. -
3. Re: Codec Troubleshooting Issue
Bill Hunt Apr 6, 2008 7:27 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Interesting, as I have used Sherlock on both my workstation and laptop, and never got the "broken" message. Guess I've been lucky. I appreciate the links, as I often recommend Sherlock, when folk have CODEC problems, and I may have been doing them a disservice.
Thanks,

4. Re: Codec Troubleshooting Issue
Stan Jones Apr 8, 2008 6:23 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Have you run Sherlock since moving to CS3? I believe the "problem" did not exist in earlier versions, but I had a PPro2 only installation to test. I suspect it is an installer oddity, and perhaps other install methods may get different results. I did a fresh CS3 install, and I wonder if an upgrade may differ.
