    Where is the additional content?

    RoboWizard CommunityMVP
      Hi folks

Finally got Visual Communicator up and running and am attempting to become familiar. I was about to play with some of the files offered when using the Wizard to create content and noticed that a lot seemed to be disabled. I did recall seeing an option that I must have skipped over during install that allowed me to select additional content. However, I didn't see anything anywhere in the menus or the help system that pointed to where I would go to obtain the missing content. I figured this was why a lot of the options were disabled.

Sooooo, I decided to do the uninstall/reinstall hokey pokey. Upon reinstalling, I'm advised that "additional content exists" and a file browser window opens allowing me to choose the content. However, this is pointing generically to the root of the C: drive. I'm unclear on exactly where and in what format this content is located.

      Ideas? Rick :)

Additionally, where is (or how does one run) the "additional content installer"?

            Hi Rick,

If you bought the ESD version of VC3, there should be a link to download the Additional Content installer on the same page that you downloaded the application.

You don't need to uninstall the app to install the additional content. Simply download and run the Additional Content installer.

I have not gone through the ESD process personally, but I think there is some kind of store/locker/etc. that you can log in to to download your ESD purchases. You should find the Additional Content installer there.

If you purchased the DVD version, it should have found the installer automatically, but in case it didn't, the installer is located at:

            X:\Content\Setup.exe

            on your VC3 install disc.

              Thanks Matt

Hmmm, I just downloaded the trial and obtained a serial for the same. Looks like I'd better request the DVD!

              Thanks for that.

Any good tips sites you are aware of for this product? I'm a Captivate user and I'm struggling a bit with coming to terms with how to use this.

Seems to be a different sort of beast for sure. How does one specify the overall length of a video clip? Just by manipulating the Titles and Effects and whatnot?

Any decent tutorials you are aware of?

              Thanks... Rick :)

If you are installing the extra VC3 content on a Vista machine, the Vista defaults are not allowing you to see the additional content file. There is approximately 2.8GB of great content. You need to go to control panel on vista, then choose "Classic View", then click on folder options. Once there, check "show hiddenfiles and folders", and uncheck "hide extensions for known file types" Hope this helps

                  Hi Drew

Thanks for posting. I'll keep this in mind if and when I choose to boot into Vista and install it there.

Since asking this initially, I obtained the actual installation media and found it there. I had originally installed from the trial download, thus it wasn't present.

                  Cheers... Rick :)

I recently upgraded to VC3 using a Download from Adobe. Before VC3 was released I downloaded the 2.8 GB of content. Although the huge cntent file name is visible, I can't seem to integrate the content into VC3.
I'm running Windows XP. How do I access all this content?

                    Thanks very much.

I presume you know where you stored it when you downloaded it? If not locate it. (My guess is it would be in the Adobe folder located in Program files on your C: drive.) If it is there, when you install VC3, check the Content folder under the VC3 folder in Adobe. If it isn't there, locate it and drag and drop it into the Content folder. The folders will names such as OTS, Pictures, Virtual Sets. The actual path is: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Visual Communicator 3\Content

Your fall back would be to re-download it.

Hi.. I found this thread and I have to ask.

I downloaded and installed the demo, but noticed in the installation
files there are two content folders "Content" and "Content2". When
asked during the install to direct the installer to my content I
went to "Content", thinking I would be able to go back to "Content2".
                        Of course I could not.

Did I do something wrong? Can both be installed at once or do I need
to re-install to check out "Content2"? And... why are they seperate
to begin with? I have never encountered such an odd install before,
                        so now I'm curious.

                        Thank You

I have the same installation problem as John Angry. I'm doing the 30-day trial, so I my product isn't registered with Adobe to allow for free tech support. When installing the program I couldn't determine how to install both Content .cab folders. I could only choose one content folder during the initial install - it wouldn't allow me to choose both folders. There is an earlier post from Matt Talistu about an "Additional Content Installer," but I cannot locate that installer on Adobe's web site. Later there was a post by Rick Blackmon giving instructions to drag the extra downloaded content folder (in my case, "Content 2") into the program content folder. I could extract all of the files and simply dump them into that folder, but they wouldn't then be in the correct subfolder (3D Objects, Audio, Videos, Effects, Virtual Sets, etc.). I'm assuming VC3 needs these files in the correct subfolder to use them. Can anybody help me to get this second content folder installed?

John...did you figure out how to get the second Visual Communicator content folder installed? I've got the same issue and need help.
