Computer Specifications for HD Video editing 1080p AVCHD

    Johnny Sac

      Hello everyone,

I have a Canon HG21 that records at 1080p AVCHD 1920x1080 but both of my computers cannot edit the video, it's extremely sluggish. The sound seems to play fine but the video lags terribly, so it's almost impossible to edit it properly and look out for things you might want to cut out, you would realistically have to go through frame by frame at the moment which is time consuming..

I have a Dell XPS 16 laptop with 2.66ghz T9550, 6gb ram, 512mb gfx card which struggles to play it back

      And my desktop has:

      Q6600 Slacr g0 2.4 @ 3ghz / 4GB ram / 512mb gfx card.

The video seems to play fine in VLC player, but editing it in Adobe Premiere Pro it lags terribly. I assume these computers are fast enough to edit 1080p video however I may be wrong.

Do I need a new codec or something? Or are these two computers just not fast enough to edit 1080p?

What do you need to edit 1080p? I am guessing you would have to spend $4k upwards just for that!

      Thanks.
