          Can you post the contents of your application descriptor xml file?

              <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

                That's interesting, your application descriptor runs in the AIR debug launcher (adl).

                A suggestion, start a bit smaller, add lines and see what is causing the error.

                Try this one

                <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
                <application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/1.5">
                    <filename>FirstApplication</filename>
                    <id>AirTest.html.FirstApplication</id>
                    <version>0.1</version>
                    <name>FirstApplication</name>
                    <installFolder>FirstApplication</installFolder>
                    <programMenuFolder>FirstApplication</programMenuFolder>
                    <initialWindow>
                        <content>index.html</content>
                        <height>350</height>
                        <width>250</width>
                        <visible>true</visible>
                    </initialWindow>
                </application>

                If it works then add new parameters and retry (like Icon, customUpdateUI etc).

                A question:  Are you trying to build the application, debug the application or via Actionscript or Javascript, parse the application descriptor file?
