Have you tried deleting the preferences file?
Have you tried selecting another font?
Can you post a link to the problem PNG file?
thank you for your quick response.
A .png file wouldn't show anything because nothing happens in any file when I try to type.
How do you delete the preferences file? Something like that fixed a problem with my Spry java error messages so perhaps that would work. I seem to be finding all the problems in my CS4 Designer Suite!
thanks in advance for instructions on getting rid of the preferences file without blowing up the rest.
Hi Sanadra, is this a new issue? Was the Type Tool working finee prioe to this?
Windows Location: [drive]:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Application Data\Adobe\Fireworks CS4\English\Fireworks CS4 Preferences.txt
Mac Location:[User]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Fireworks CS4/en/Fireworks Preferences
Select the file and delete it.

Yes, the type tool worked originally and I completed an Adobe tutorial on making a website using css Blue Skies. The logo was text and it worked fine.
I tried deleting the preferences file but to no avail.
As soon as I choose the type tool and try to type a letter, the tool changes to something else. I've chosen multiple fonts, sizes, etc.
Perhaps a call to Adobe is in order at this point.
thank you for your imput.

It is a strange behavior!
You say 'it changes to something else', what exactly does it change to?
Do you have access to the Property Inspector when the Type Tool is active?
If you do, try changing it to an OS default font, like Arial. Close Fw and then start it again, and try again.
Did you install any new fonts lately? Perhaps a corrupted font is interferring with the use of the Type Tool.
Thank you for your suggestion. I did find a few corrupt fonts and learned how to check that, thank you very much!
What's weird is my Arial, Verdana and other common fonts got yellow caution marks. I'm new to Mac so not sure what that's all about and how to fix it.
I then deleted the preferences file like suggested above and restarted Fireworks but the problem persists. Very frustrating.
I've tried all different fonts, sizes and nothing works. I think I will uninstall it and reinstall again (third time) perhaps that is the charm.
ok, it was some weird install deal. I went to Applications and found that there were two icons for Fireworks. I uninstalled them both, reinstalled the product again and it works fine! Thanks for all your help and I learned about corrupt fonts too.
Appreciate the advice.
