    How can I customize the skin of my AIR app

    avi10000 Level 1

      Hi all,

      I have created an AIR app from my RoboHelp v7 WebHelp.
      Works and looks quite nice. Great. It's just that it did not use the WebHelp skin I created. It uses some default skin.

      How can I customize the skin of my AIR app? When I run the RH Packager for Adobe AIR, I get a dlg box come up, called, "General Options - RoboHelp Packager for Adobe AIR" and it offers me a few default skins, but it does not offer me the skin I made for my WebHelp.

      I also heard that if you learn FLEX you might be able to change the skins.

      TIA

          Since you're not building your app from scratch but rather using Adobe RoboHelp, you might want to look at their forums here:

          http://forums.adobe.com/community/robohelp

          Or the help files:

          http://help.adobe.com/en_US/RoboHelp/8.0/RoboHTML/

          This forum is for AIR application development and not intended for individual product support.

          Good Luck!

            Actually it is also possible to do this via Javascript and HTML. I know it is possible and Flex aswell but I have no idea how.

            In java/html

            Open your application.xml

                 Find <systemChrome>something</systemChrome>

                 Replace something with none

                 Now your app has no chrome.

                 Basically from there you just style and set up your app as an html page with css

            Regards

              Wow!!!  Great thanks!

              I will try it when I get back to my client.

              Thanks again!

                Hi again Buch90,

                Ok, my tag already contains "none".

                Where is the CSS file I am supposed to modify in order to modify the skin?

                All I can find under the AIR app directory is the CSS file I used for the

                appearance of the topics.

                  Heya,

                  In order to change it alle just set it up as ordinary html webpage so heres and example of css:

                  style.css - In the main directory of your app.

                  body {
                       margin:0;
                       padding:0;
                  }

                  #wrap {
                       margin:0;
                       padding:0;
                       text-aling:left;
                  }

                  #header {
                       padding:2px;
                       background:#000;
                       color:#fff;
                  }

                  #content {
                       padding:1em;
                       margin:0;
                       background:#ccc;
                  }

                  #footer {
                       padding:2px;
                       background:#000;
                       color:#fff;
                  }

                  Now for the html file:

                  <html>
                       <head>
                            <title>My App</title>
                            <link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen" />
                            // Scripts go here
                       </head>

                       <body>
                            <div id="wrap">
                                 <div id="header">
                                      My Application title
                                 </div>

                                 <div id="content">
                                      bla bla bla lorem lipsum.
                                 </div>

                                 <div id="footer">
                                      Copyright'n stuff
                                 </div>
                            </div>
                       </body>
                  </html>

                  If you need more help or examples I recomend that you go here and read some stuff on a lot of it all , you can also download theese samples it contains a lot of good stuff which makes it all A LOT easier to understand, the way I learnt most of what I know even though I am still missing some things.

                  Hope it helped!

                  Best Regards

                    >> style.css

                    That's the name of the CSS file? And that lets me define the appearance of

                    the skin of the left hand pane, i.e., including the three tabs: the Contents

                    tree tab, Index tab and Search tab?

                    Thanks for the links.

                      Yeah If you are making the app from the bottom then you can name the css file whatever you want, but I just read your start topic and saw you are using that Robotics thing. I don't know how to style in that I am afraid.

                      Just another thing, I had a talk with a dude who has done a few air applications and I asked him which would be the best to build in and he recommended Flex. Just thought I'd share it with you, so you might also start on Flex as I have done from today

                      Best Regards

                        Maybe I will just look around in the output directory from the

                        RoboHelp AIR Packager to file a file CSS or XML that contains the skin

                        definitions.

                        Is it possible to get a definitive answer from somebody - no Adobe RoboHelp

                        - AIR developers looking in?

                        >> and he recommended Flex

                        How do I use Flex on the output from the RoboHelp AIR Packager?

                        tnx
