By using that effect, your layer becomes bitmap. Sorry, but you can't continuously rasterise that.
the problem is that when i select the check box it makes the vector graphic go crazy and not wrap itself into a sphere properly. how do i get around this?
You don't. As David said, it's a design limitation in how AE works. You can however work your way around this by combining techniques and massaging AE's render pipeline to suit your needs. In effect, all you need to do is scale the map with CR enabled in a sub-comp, while using it on CC Sphere on which you animate the radius. Obviously you will only get a cropped region, but that can be remedied by adding an effect like Motion Tile before CC Sphere to adjust the placement of the decal.
ok cheers for the help. i have found another way using radial blur and just zooming in and crossing over to an unwrapped continuously rasterised vector graphic.
p.s. does anybody else find this new forum very slow and cumbersome?
Yes, the new Forum engine is certainly slower and a bit more clunky than the old at this point. But the Jive engineers are apparently working around the clock to tweak things, so hopefully we'll see big improvements over time...
