Let there be no doubt about it, MAC's are good. It also gives you the choice between PP and FCP. The downside is that they are way more expensive than PC based notebooks with similar capabilities and have less expansion capabilities. In terms of stability both are good if you choose the right configuration. My personal favorite is a PC based version, but I'm biased, since I have no inclination at all to consider FCP, so that is a non-issue for me.
I hope this does not turn into a MAC-PC diatribe. These remarks were just my .02

I actually do doubt it. Mac's bring higher prices, limited hardware, and limited software. In my experience, they're no more stable than a well maintained PC.
Definitely get a PC.
Use whichever platform you are more comfortable with.
