All my video from a Canon XH A1 is transferring at a luminence range of 7.5-110 IRE and the highlights look over exposed. Is that normal on this camcorder? The other cameras I've used have always been in the range of 7.5-100. Anyone have the same issue?
Thanks for the help.
I use that cam and hant noticed typical over exposure. How are you shooting? What Mode?
What I have noticed is gain is really noticble in HDV at least with that cam. I never shoot over +6 gain or it looks terrible grainy. If you shoot in automatic gain, it will routinely bump up abibe +6. So, my advise; turn auto gain off first thing.
Thanks. I turned off AGC and recorded some video and the levels on the captured footage are now in spec, although the range was only between 15-80 IRE. I never had a camera with AGC so I thought it might be helpful in run & gun situations, but I don't like it at all. So OFF it shall stay! Thanks for answering - very helpful.
