DivX is your problem. Google for a converter that can convert DivX .avi
files to .avi files with more editing-friendly codecs like DV, or even
if ill download divx player and codec, it wont solve the problem?
Your AVI file is using the DivX codec which causes a lot of headaches. You need to convert the file to a Type 2 DV AVI file to work without problems in Premiere Pro.
See: FAQ:How do I convert my files?
i see, thanks for helping
I am also experiencing extreme difficulty importing media. My codecs initially worked automatically, and then, for reasons I do not understand, I could no longer import video from my JVC camera. Today, I am no longer able to import JPEGS images that were processed through LightRoom. I've re-installed Adobe Premier Elements 7.0. I've updated all my software, both Windows 7, and Adobe. The message indicates "Codec missing".
Question1: Where do I find the codecs folder on my computer? Is there an update?
Questtion2: Where do I find codecs to download (and shouldn't they already be there?!)
Currently, I'm resorting to importing via Windows Live, then importing those files through Adobe. Needless to say, there is a loss of quality there, and it is frustrating not to be able to do this directly from the program I actually purchased for the project.
John has pointed you to the correct forum for PrE 7.
Before you post there, you can use the great, free utility, G-Spot, to find out the installed CODEC's on your system. That info will be important, when you do post over there. Read this ARTICLE first. This ARTICLE will give you some background n CODEC's in general, and this ARTICLE will give you tips on the info that would so very important, when you post.
Good luck, and see you in the PrE forum.
Thank you Bill!
I'm so pleased to find a response.
It was treading water in the middle of the ocean looking for help,
which I am unable to filter/decipher on my own.
All I know is that it worked, and now it doesn't.
I will take some time to explore the links you have sent,
and read them.
Hopefully I can get the problem solved before the week is over!
