Sounds like there's some sort of time zone/UTC thing going on, but without
more info, that's as precise as I can be.

This is really strange. The datagrid's dataTip for the sql server record with "8/27/2008 8:58:00 PM " shows up as "Wed Aug 27 23:58:00 GMT -0400 2008".. even the tooltip time is off.
come to think of it... could be that the flex application translate the database time into my local time, since the flex app runs locally in my browser? "Wed Aug 27 23:58:00 GMT -0400 2008" was the time I created the record. I'm on the east coast, and the data center is pacific.
