urlloader cant stop uploads of large data immediately it may take some time to terminate all network operations in progress completely , altough all eventlisteners attached with the urlloader are closed immediately.
How do you know close() isn't working? It certainly won't stop the sending of a request. Maybe you need code that prevents the call to load()?

Have you tried sending some other request when you want to cancel the previous? If this doesn't work, then I cannot see any other way but to send your data via URLStream and have it write that data in intervals you define... though it'd be a lot more work for you to program it, I doubt there may be a better way.

Err... Do you mean, that close() works only for download stream? And there is no way to stop upload action? I don't understand - why FileReference has cancel() method which works both for upload and download, but URLLoader.close() doesn't interrupt upload?
It seems that it is a bug... Should I post it into bugtracker, or it is sort of "feature of internal design"?
And, what about URLStream, which has been mentioned above? URLStream.close() will not terminate upload too?
