If your drivers are in C++ libraries you could use Alchemy to compile those libraries into AS3 I don't know it that will work but maybe. And yes Merapi will be the most likely solution you can maybe send Adam Flater a tweet to @adamflater or contact him through his blog, he's part of the Merapi team, maybe he could help you get in.
Hope this somehow might've help you.
No, we don't have C++ source code, just DLLs.
And AFAIK, Merapi is dead or almost dead, at least there is practically no activity in their forum.
Any other ways to connect AIR app to DLL or applet ?
Hi Oleg, I don't think is dead because even Tour De Flex is using Merapi, I think the problem with the Merapi Crew activity is because one or two of them were laid off so they're busy with that.
As far as I know there isn't a way yet, however you could file a request for it.
One option is to call your dll using python, which has functions to do that. From AIR connect to python using a Socket Server to localhost. See the source code at http://flexiboard.riaforge.com for an example of such a server. You will, of course, need to start the sockets server before running your AIR app.
Of course - you don't have to use python - you could just as well program a sockets server in c, java, etc.
Sockets programming with AIR ? Did it in C about 15 yrs ago, was hoping we passed that...
Any samples ?
I thought Adobe should realize that AIR will need to use OS resources
and be able to connect to DLLs. After all, it's all about desktop.
Are they working on it ? Or do we need to open RFP ?
In Merapi forums some people said that the creator has left the project
and it might be dying.
I am getting "Story Not Found" from that link,
and the only Merapi stories on that site I could find where about Merapi volcano.
Is that what you are referring to ?
As for Merapi project, it's creator recently left,
so the project seems to be dying or dead, no activity for a long time:
Any comments on that ?
And it seems like Adobe has no alternative and doesn't care.
So what am I to do with my problem ?
Check this link
Or make a google search Testla Merapi.
Probably Adobe is working on that, there hasn't been an announcement about
AIR 2.0, so probably there's already a higly voted request on this in the
people you are wrong. Even if you use merapi, you need to have another java app to launch first before your AIR, flex app launch. Also a java applet can not talk to a .DLL library of C++. unless you have its java binding which i believe only strongly signed applet can download to client computer.
so if this is flex app, there is no hope for you to use that library.
if this is AIR app, you can use LocalConnection to talk to the .dll. Look at Aperture framework from FluorineFx people.
