If your audio contains ac3 and you are on Premiere 4.0.1. the audio does not work
Go back to 4.0 or wait for the next update (and hope they have fixed this).
It's better (as a work-around) to demux and convert the AC3 audio to WAV. Details are in the link I provided.
I do not agree.
I have never had to demux so why start now. Its a flaw in 4.0.1.
One could argue that it is not a flaw in PP but in the camera. It records in a format unsuitable for editing. Why not convert it to an editable format if that is your intent? The camera was designed to deliver watchable material, not editable material. If you use such a camera, take the consequences.
Thanks for quick help to bouth of you. Well, from Adobe I expect better job. Since I am not sure about downgrading to 4.0 (I upgrade whole cs frequently and togother). I just tried one of the process described in Edie link: converting MPEG with MPEG Streamclip to MP2 audio and it works. I am goning to try to paste dll file from Encore, if it works, it ma be the easiest way.
But really thanks for your help.
Hi from Prague
Good points all around. That it did work in 4.0, but not 4.0.1 possibly indicates that while fixing something else, the ability to handle the Audio was broken and no one in the coding department thought to check all possible source files for consequences. As 4.0 was getting a lot of push-back from users, I'd guess that Adobe was in rather a hurry to quiet the clamor. "Stuff" happens. There is usually a "ripple-effect" with patches and updates, and someone did not look far enough out in the pond to see where these ripples stopped.
Let us all hope that 4.1 will address this, and many other issues. There are signs that it will. Still, how far out those "ripples" will go, is anybody's guess.
At least there are two workarounds, Eddie's and Ann's, until 4.1 hits. Yes, we probably should not have to use workarounds, but they get Projects out the door, until real fixes come. Life is full of compromises, so workarounds can save one's hinney.
Good luck, and let's all keep them fingers X'ed for 4.1.
