I'm a noob too, but the things to look out for are firstly have you converted your 'buttons' into actual buttons (with a reasonable hit area rather than just the text) and secondly you need to have a thingumy first (I did say i was a noob didn't i?)
getURL("url", "window", "method");
(insert your url, window method thingy's in there or leave blank with just "")
I'm really not sure if this firstly is right or second is any help, but it'll give you something to try while you wait for someone who knows what they're talking about ;)
Umm I'm afraid we both look too new at this to very good at it..
Perhaps someone can point me to a tutorial on creating web buttons that illustrates how the script is applied.
I found a flash tutorial which may help you but in my case I'm using layers from a photoshop file and it wont let me apply scripts to my buttons.
Here's the tutorial:
layers from a photoshop file shouldn't make any difference if you've converted them correctly into a button and if you're using actionscript2. You need to make sure you're adding script to the right part. ie in your actions layer, make sure that the title is the same as the buttons instance.
I don't have a problem with the buttons I've created so far, my battle is with a php/comparison thingumy *giggle* but thanks for the tut.. i'll add it to my bookmarks ;)
I figured out my problem.
I started the file as an actionscript 3.0 file. As soon as I redesigned it as an actionscript 2.0 file the scripts worked.
Now I just need to learn how to make the script open a new browser window.
