Are you sure the music you drag and drop isn't protected (m4p).
Did you try in iTunes to select your music, alt-clic and select "show files in finder" and drag & drop to AE from here.
Thanks for the quick response Sebastian.
Yeah, I know I can find the file in finder, but I used to be able to organize all my files in the iTunes interface and easily drag them to my project in AE CS3... so much more convenient.
I tried .aif and .wav files, all formats that AE accepts. Like I mentioned, I used to do this with AE CS3 and my Windows OS... I was just wondering if this was a Mac bug or something. Not the end of the world, but it's little things like this I waste half a day on trying to figure out!! lol.
I'm not on mac, but i've just test drag & drop from itunes 8.1.1 to AE CS4, and it's working.
Maybe an authorization problem ?
Hmm. Must be a Mac thing. Thanks!
Check your drag&drop Import preference. Perhaps it's trying to import it as a comp. No clue, what else may be wrong, since I never tried, but could well be, that your iTunes Music folder does not have sufficient rights, because it's by default in your user-specific library folder. Moving it to a different place might resolve the issue. Otherwise just grant your user the right to manage the computer, this may outfit you with sufficient privileges....
It's something that works on Windows, but not Mac. Instead you can either:
- import the file from the iTunes library /Users/~name/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music
- drag the file from iTunes to the desktop, then drag from the desktop to AE
Thanks for clarifying this, Elaine. Good to know!
Yes Elaine, thanks for clarifying.
For us Mac users, I guess the next best thing is to right click on the iTunes file and choose "show in finder" and drag from there, as Sebastian explained... that is, if you want to keep using the iTunes interface as an organizer, which I do.
Come on Mac, it's tiny, but so convenient!
I agree... it definitely would be easier just to be able to drag to AE from iTunes. I have a feeling this is a remnant from DRM issues with iTunes, so- who knows. Maybe in the future it will change.
