    Possible Rollover & Slice capabilities

    Bob-Snow Level 1

We are using Fireworks to create a web page with rollovers (using the Swap Image Behavior) and a Slice.  We have been using it this way for years (maybe even the last 5 versions).  We were hoping that a few changes have been made along the way...

When you create a slice, is it possible to have the size or shape of the Slice change on the fly?  Maybe for one of the swap image behaviors the slice would be one size and change back to the original size when the rollover action is complete.  I hope this makes sense.

Also one other question when it comes to the slice and the same rollover (swap image) behavior. Is there a way to hold the Swapped image there so that you could click on a link shown on that page?  Up until now there hasn't been anyway of doing this but we thought maybe since it has been so many years since we started using the Slices, Rollovers and Swap Image that maybe the cababilities were now there.

      Thanks for any help.

          Hi Bob:

          >> When you create a slice, is it possible to have the size or shape

behaviors the slice would be one size and change back to the original

size when the rollover action is complete.

No. This is not a limitation of Fireworks; this is just how rollovers

work. Rollover images must be the same dimensions or the swapped image

will distort, based on the size of the original image. If you want to

do this kind of thing, some kind of Ajax pop up window might give you

the result you need, but that is not something that FW can do.

This degree of interactivity could also be achieved with Flash, I'm

sure, but that is not an application I have much experience with.

Again, no. This is not an FW thing. When you swap an image, that is

exactly what you are doing; replacing one image with another. Images

          do not contain embedded hyperlinks.

There are ways to make emulate this but they are not part of

Fireworks; You'd need to work with a combination of HTML, CSS and

          maybe JavaScript.

That all said, please also bear in mind that FIreworks is not an html

page creation program; it's a graphics editor and prototyping tool

with some limited HTML capabilities. Granted, these capabilities are

improving, but they don't beat  solid HTML knowledge and a dedicated

          web design program like Dreamweaver.
