Yes, you do not get ppt objects on timeline as captivate objects.
It also doesn't seem that such is a support is likely to come in near future.
PPT slides are converted into swf files while importing it inside Captivate. Hence you wont be able to access the slide text.
At the same time, if the same text is available as slide notes in PowerPoint, Captivate does the job of importing PPT slide notes as well and insert it as Captivate slide notes. This text can be useful.

I suppose this could be helpful, but in my experience subject matter experts
rarely use PPT notes.
