A search on Google leads me to guess that your registry is messed up, see this link:
Try a registry cleaner and see what happens.
My IT folks are suggesting it could have something to do with my machine runing IE6.
Microsoft. The error is a C++ error and I’ve been reading that the crashes are more prevalent when running IE6.
Does this make any sense to you?
Yes, it does. You need to update your system. Get all current updates and if you still have the C++ errors, there are a number of posts about this issue I posted a long time ago or go to the Microsoft site and search for the latest updates. Be aware that you need to choose the correct version for your OS.
