time needed to get flex tree working

I used to do actionscript and learned enough coldfusion to be dangerous, but I don’t know Flex. So I’m looking to hire someone to get the Flex tree component working. How long should it take to setup a mySQL database and just get the flex component communicating with it via PHP? The first guy that responded to my post on odesk.com was from India. He said it would take him 60 hrs. at $15/hr. It seems to me that the hours are way too long and the rate too low. Am I wrong?

Less than a day I'll say and if you you AS3/CF than why don't you do

          it yourself.

          Sincerely,

          Michael

It's been a long time since I've done AS and even longer since CF because my day job requires only Director Lingo. Besides, as much as I like programming I'm really an animator and writer (davidwatkinson.com.) And even if I could learn enough to get the flex tree going, the rest of my project will require such advanced programming (a lot of PHP which I don't know at all) that I really want to find someone to work with on the first relatively easy stage in the hope they we may be able to work together on the more advanced stuff.

$15 an hour for Flex help is a steal, but 60 hours is way too much.

Pay him for 30 hours and you're still ahead of the game compared to US rates for Flex developers.

I don't know CF, but now you have some guidelines.
