What program did you use to convert your files to DV-AVI and are they Type II? Did you also set the Audio in the conversion program to PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit? What format were the files in, before the conversion?
Sorry to ask so many questions, but there is likely something in the conversion process, that PE does not like.
Sounds like you have converted your files and are trying to substitute the existing files on the timeline with the new ones, how are you going about this? Anyway, if the audio format of the new file is different from the file you are trying to substitute it wont let you do it. Sounds like the converter has converted the mono audio of the original track into stereo.
I used PE to convert it. I have no idea if they are Type II - how do I find that out? And I did not set the audio conversion either - not sure how to do that either. the file is a nokia media file taken with my phone. I converted others of this type without a problem but I have two where I get this message.
I convert my files as a separate project in PE and then was trying to replace them in my existing project. IS there a way of setting the audio prior to conversion so they don't change the mono audio?
Yes you can export as mono, click on the clip, go to File>Export>Movie, then in the export window click on Settings. Then in General the file type should be Microsoft DV AVI, then go into Audio and in Channels select Mono. If you are just exporting a section of your video put the work area bar over the section and in General you can select for Range "Work Area Bar" rather than "Timeline".
Today i have the same problem "The selected file cannot be linked because it has 2 audio channel(s) and the clip was created with one audio channel(s)." but i find a solution that corrects 100% this type of message:
When i open the project file appears the messaje about the "missing" file, ok, i dont´t link anything but y select (push) the button "ALL OFFLINE" (this button is at the bottom of the messaje window).
OK, the project open but all the external files are not linked, now, manually, in the library of the project, i right button over each file and select "LINK MEDIA..." and chose the correct file, with no error messaje at all. Save the project. SOLVED.
Hopefully this message will be read by Alejandro Marin who shared findings. It saved me!! I did what whe suggested and clicked on the ALL OFFLINE button and it worked! Thank you for sharing Alejandro.
