1. Re: Getting red noise on all my exports from media encoder.
joshtownsend May 10, 2009 2:28 PM (in response to Brad12d3)That's not good. First thing to check would be updated video drivers. If that doesn't work your gonna have to tell us your system spec, footage specs (size, codec, par), your Premiere setting and your export settings.

2. Re: Getting red noise on all my exports from media encoder.
Brad12d3 May 10, 2009 3:41 PM (in response to joshtownsend)I have an HP m9500y 64 bit operating system running windows vista home with AMD Phenom 9750 Quad-Core Processor 2.40 GHz, and 8 GB of ram. My graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT. The footage I was exporting was .mov and was 720x480 1.2121. I have also exported avi footage with the same par and resolution, and got the same problem. This was raw footage captured in final cut pro on another editor's computer. This is a job I took on after the producer had a falling out with the other editor. Some of the tapes went missing so I am relying on his capture scratch. This has been happening for a couple of days now. The video files I have been exporting out of premier that have had the problem have either been raw quicktime files that were captured through fcp, or avi files rendered out of after effects with the lagarith codec that I brought into my edit. But all my footage is 720x480 1.2121. I am also exporting AVI 720x480 1.2121 with the lagarith codec on all the exports that have had the red noise.

3. Re: Getting red noise on all my exports from media encoder.
joshtownsend May 10, 2009 4:23 PM (in response to Brad12d3)Is the raw footage what's messed up? Does it look bad in the timeline or only when rendered?
Does the raw footage appear messed up when the footage is played with quicktime player?

4. Re: Getting red noise on all my exports from media encoder.
Brad12d3 May 10, 2009 6:39 PM (in response to joshtownsend)The mov raw footage looks a little pixelated when played in quicktime, but looks fine when played on the timeline. The avi looks fine when played in windows media player and looks fine on the timeline. Yet this problem has plagued both when rendered out of premier.

5. Re: Getting red noise on all my exports from media encoder.
Bill Hunt May 11, 2009 11:27 AM (in response to Brad12d3)Brad,
To restate what you have said - and to make sure I'm on the right page with you:
You have two types of Assets: MOV raw, Captured in FCP and Lagarith AVI Exported from AE. Both play fine outside of PrPro (.MOV's slightly pixelated in QT Player) and both Import and play fine within PrPro. The problems come, when you Export from PrPro. Is this correct?
As a test, have you tried other Export schemes from PrPro, such as DV-AVI? This is only as a test, as it will obviously not be what you ultimately need.
Just curious. Good luck,
Hunt
[Edit] going back to the OP, I see that it has been an Export as .AVI (which AVI CODEC?), that seems to have caused this. Can you try maybe an MPEG-2 Export?

6. Re: Getting red noise on all my exports from media encoder.
Brad12d3 May 11, 2009 11:58 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)I think I have narrowed it down. Don't know why I did consider this before. But I believe the cause of the problem is the lagarith codec. I use lagarith in after effects and it works fine, but apparently not in premier. I exported the same timeline both as AVIs, one using lagarith and the other DV (24p Advanced). I got the red noise in the lagarith export and nothing at all in the dv export. Does lagarith just not vibe well with premier? I would like to export with a good lossless codec, and unfortunately lagarith isn't going to work for me. Any other codecs that anyone might suggest?

JSS1138 May 11, 2009 1:49 PM (in response to Brad12d3)What version of Lags are you using? I was having some glitches myself using version 1.3.18, but the newest 1.3.19 has resolved those.

8. Re: Getting red noise on all my exports from media encoder.
Bill Hunt May 11, 2009 2:53 PM (in response to Brad12d3)I've used it in the PAST [emphasis on PAST], with no issues. Maybe things have changed. Have also used HufYUV (220) without incident.
Glad you're on the trail and good luck,
Hunt

9. Re: Getting red noise on all my exports from media encoder.
Brad12d3 May 11, 2009 7:33 PM (in response to JSS1138)I actually redownloaded the lagarith codec and installed it again to see if it would resolved the issue. I am away from my editing bay tonight so I haven't had a chance to see if the video I started rendering came out alright. The codec version I downloaded was 1.3.18. I did not see a version 1.3.19. Where can I download this latest version?

From the official Lagarith web site.

11. Re: Getting red noise on all my exports from media encoder.
Brad12d3 May 13, 2009 10:50 AM (in response to Jeff Bellune)Well it seems that version 1.3.19 is giving me the same problem. I decided that I would try to use the huffyuv codec, but when I install it it doesn't show up as an option in either permier or after effects. I even used the command prompt install method that people have posted on forums, and it still is not showing up. I was having the same problem with the Lagarith codec, but you could download a version of lagarith that had it's own installer which is what I did, and that worked. I am not sure what I need to do to get huffyuv to show up. Any suggestions?

13. Re: Getting red noise on all my exports from media encoder.
Bill Hunt May 15, 2009 9:13 AM (in response to Brad12d3)Unfortunately no. I'd have to check version #'s on my machines, but the straight install (no CMD line prompt), worked for both HufYUV and Lagarith. I'm probably many versions behind you though, so doubt that it makes in difference to your situation. Both show in about every program with Video Export.
Good luck,
Hunt

14. Re: Getting red noise on all my exports from media encoder.
Brad12d3 May 15, 2009 10:41 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)I just installed an older version of huffyuv using the cmd prompt method and it is showing up in my premier. I might try an older version of lagarith and see if I can still use it without the noise. Perhaps it is just a compatibility problem with the new version. Thanks for all your help guys. Appreciate it.
