Thank you J MaloneyThe link you provided says to make sure that under Edit > Menus I've chosen Photoshop Default, and I have.
So I chose the Clone tool, went to Edit, but the 'define brush preset' choice was greyed out.
But I finally figured it out : you first have to make a selection with a selection tool, THEN go to Edit > Define Brush Preset , which will now be available. Give it a good name you can remember. Now when I choose the Clone tool, I look in the brush presets, and voila, there is the new shape! Hooray!!!! I knew it was possible. Thanks a bunch, guys 'n' gals.
Note to anyone else trying this: the adobe link provided in the previous post is slightly misleading as it says that the new brush shape will only affect grayscale tones, ie it will not pick up color information. At least in CS3 and forward, this has changed and the tools most certainly do pick up the color info.
I'm a very happy camper!

The created brush preset is monochromatic but, used with the Clone Stamp, it will pick up the colour of the clone source.
