I recall an blog post that suggests to not use the charting components
but to draw the chart manually when you're dealing with a large amount
of data. I have to look the link to post it here.
Thanks for the link. I think the solutions there look like they will definitely work, however it seems like a really tough tradeoff to lose the interactivity and all the bells and whistles of flex charting just to increase performance. I guess you could go back in and put all that back by hand but it seems like an awful lot of work just to shave a few seconds off the rendering times.
One thing I am still curious about however is why the render times were so much better on my co-worker's computer. We are both using Flash Player 10 so is this just a hardware issue perhaps? It's somewhat disconcerting to see how quickly it renders on his machine and how slowly it does on mine...
Probably a Hardware issue, maybe different OS, different configurations, different browsers. A set of test can give you an answer. Have you tried profiling your app?
