What is meant by "Video Sample Size = 24 bit"?

In the video properties for a XVID file you can see "Video Sample Size 24 bit" included with bitrate, frame size, but "file size in MB or GB" omitted.

What is this Video Sample Size? Is it the same as "bit depth, also known as color depth" that relates to the number of bits used to represent the color of a single pixel in an image?

I know how to calculate/estimate the file size of a single image from bit depth information such as 12 bit, 24 bit and frame size, but can you calculate the file size of a video from it frame size, bit depth? Question is based on Video Sample Size really being equal to bit depth.

If your question is in regards to Encore, then it doesn't really matter what it means.

All video for DVD-Video output is encoded to MPEG-2, all video for Blu-ray output is encoded to either H.264 or MPEG-2, and all video for Flash output is encoded to FLV or H.264.

Xvid and DivX codec installations are known to cause trouble with Adobe CS video applications, and are highly compressed as it is, and will be transcoded to the format-legal codecs. I'd avoid using them in Encore or Premiere unless you enjoy troubleshooting and/or poor video quality.

            Thank you for your response.

This topic was never meant to be posted in this forum. I was in the Premiere Elements Forum yesterday when I clicked on the Post Message button after typing in my question. For some unknown reason, the topic got posted in Adobe Encore/Encore Video Handling. When I repeated the message submission process, it did get posted in the correct forum. The person responding to my topic there confirmed that there had been similar unexplained "happenings" going on with other posts as well.

I intended to get back to the Encore area to add a note as to what had occurred. I apologize for not adding this note sooner. I totally agree with the comments that you made about XVID.

Yesterday seems to have been a bad day for the Adobe fora. I had three very similar instances of what Tony experienced. I'd be reading/posting in the Premiere CS3 forum, and when I'd hit Post, after the screen came back, I'd be in the CS2 forum, and that's where my post would appear. Similar behavior in several other Adobe fora too.

Some of the screen displays got very wonky, and I had one of those today. When I went to open an article in one of the fora, there was one reply. I posted to that, and when the screen came back, about 8 replies displayed! All were from days before, but had not shown up, until I posted.

I might have helped Tony out in the forum that he intended to post to. Maybe Jeff, or someone can clean up a bit. I think there will be a lot of this, and I'm not sure it's working smoothly yet.

                Hunt,

Thanks for your help. This is getting challenging. I received an email that I had received a response to a post in these forums. I was not quite sure where it had ended up. But, by the process of elimination (did not use Search function), I found you here at Encore Video Handling and not Premiere Elements.

This is my first post for today at Adobe Forums, so I hope that things have gotten back to functioning "normally".
