    Show objects inside a group

I had hidden (clicked on the eye from the layers panel) a path BEFORE creating a group. Using the Subselection tool I able to click on the object, but I can't get it to show up. In other words I can't "click on the eye" because the layers panel only lets me see the group. Is there any way to hide/show paths that are already inside a group.

This is easily done in Illustrator because it creates a tree structure in the layers panel.

      thanks,
      Justin

I don't think that's possible, as the group seems to be pretty well locked up. However, cant you just ungroup the group to extract the path in question and then regroup what's left?

            Thanks Joey,

Yeah i thought about the ungroup then regroup, but it's an extra step that I think is unecessary, especially after how easy it is to do in Illustrator. I wonder why they have different mechanisms for programs that are part of the same suite.

It seems to me that if I'm buying a suite of software programs they would essentially "behave" the same, except where the function of the program dictates something different.

Well, Fireworks was a Macromedia product up until when Adobe bought them a few year ago. There's a few Macromedia concepts present in Fireworks that I prefer, namely when you have an item selected and you zoom in, it zooms towards the center of the item. Illustrator zooms into the center of the canvas regardless of what you have selected.

As the Adobe team continues to refine Fireworks a lot more of the standard Adobe features are slipping in. I won't be surprised when the layers and groups operate in a similar fashion some day.

Check out Aaron Beall's excellent set of extensions for Fireworks. He
has a few that are designed to make Groups more user friendly.
