1. Re: Audio editor won't open in Captivate 4
macrofireball May 20, 2009 1:36 AM (in response to aim017)Hi there,
It would appear that you might have hit an issue with Vista 64bit. To get this confirmed, please report this problem to the Adobe Captivate team using the web address I have included below.
Adobe Captivate Feature Request/Bug Report FormWhilst you are waiting to see if this issue can be fixed, you could always edit your audio in an external audio editor. If you are looking for a good free editor then you might want to take a look at Audacity. From what I gather this is available for Vista 64 bit.

aim017 May 21, 2009 7:22 AM (in response to macrofireball)Thanks Mark, I reported the issue as a potential bug. I wasn't really even trying to edit the audio, I just wanted to break it up over a few slides. I used Audacity to originally record the audio, I suppose I could use it to break it up into separate files, but I just was expecting to be able to use Captivate like I had in the past and sync up the audio appropriately on each slide.
Thanks for the reply

mikebrew1 Apr 5, 2010 6:25 PM (in response to aim017)This is not just a Vista 64 problem alone. I am having the same problem on Vista 32. I don't think this has anything to do with Vista. I read several post about the same problem on XP. Over the last 4 days I have tried everything that I have read to resolve this with no luck. I tried the solution for XP posted by Adobe and even though everything ran without problem and came back sucessful the problem was not resolved. I am on a tight schedule to get a project done and this is really costing me a lot of time that I don't have to use on something that should just be working. If anyone has any ideas "Please" share them. There are a lot of us who would appreciate it greatly. If I come up with something although it's not likely I will surely post it back here.

mikebrew1 Apr 5, 2010 9:35 PM (in response to aim017)MY SOLUTION!!
I was having the exact problem and I promised that if I found a solution to my problem I would come back and share my solution. Unfortunately I can't tell you if all of these things that I did were needed. But I can tell you the order that I did them in and after doing which one that the problem went away. The truth is after each one some functionality was returned. The first thing I did was to install the "New" captivate 4 update patch. located here http://www.adobe.com/support/captivate/downloads.html
After doing that my audio sound quality improved greatly and I was able to use the audio <play> and <stop> buttons on the slides and in the properties tab. Before this when I press them I could not hear the audio I had recorded. I could only hear it during project preview. But, I still could not launch the audio editor. I could record and hear the play back but I could not launch the editor to do edits. When I clicked on audio edit Nothing happened.
The next thing I did was try the fix that was suggested for those running XP even though I am running Vista. It is a registry fix so I figured if there was a registry problem with Vista it would work just as well on Vista. This fix is located here: http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2009/03/adobe_captivate_4_installation.html
But while that did allow he to feel comfortable knowing my registry wasn't the problem it "Didn't" fix the audio editor not launching problem. In short I still couldn't get the editor to come up. Pressing the edit botton had no effect at all. (NOTE: Make sure you do this all as the Admin)
FINALLY!! I came across a post from a user "commando dhruv" who wrote:
Hi,
Try to delete this file :-
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Captivate\captivate_v30.dat
This will clear all the UI location/size preferences. Now when you start captivate it start afresh.
Might do the trick.
And since my OS is Vista not XP and I using Captivate 4 not 3 I went to c:\user\<username>\appdata\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Captivate and deleted the cativate_v40.dat file and WOW!!!!!! it WORKED.
(besure to unhidden the hidden files and folders or you won't be able to see the appdata folder. Hope you have the luck that I did.

You are fantastic, after following your directions I finally have access to my audio editor. This had been bugging me for days as I could not edit audio since I upgraded to windows 7 32 bit.
What worked for me was the last step; deleteing the captivate_v40.dat file. I also had to right click the captivate icon when I launched the software to ensure it was run "as administrator". The first time I did not do this and still had the same issue.
Give Mikebrew1 the coveted star with green tick - question answered!
So now it works again! Hooray!!!

aw&p Sep 8, 2010 8:48 PM (in response to aim017)Thanks for the post -- this issue popped up as soon as I switched to Windows 7. For me, all I had to do was right-click the icon and run as an administrator to fix the problem -- I didn't have to try any of the others.
