    adobe, I'm done with you

In Encore, when I import slides, they dont retain their horiz or vert orientation. This is a total basic of any slideshow. Its omission boggles the mind. Not only that, I cant find where I'm supposed to adjust this, SLIDE BY SLIDE. Oh yeah, these forums are a joy. too. Login and get bumped forward to the link you came BACK from. I will be looking at other image manipulation software, because After Effects is the only respectable application you still have.

I've been using Photoshop professionally since 95. Based on its general level of professionalism, minus a key command for CROP, DUH,

I bought CS4 production suite thinking I was getting something competitive to FCP and DVD Studio Pro. What I have is an abomination of

glitches and ridiculous missing functionality, like previewing HD in capture, and autodetect of scenes.

You yanked the web slideshow production out of Photoshop and put it into Bridge. OK, did any of the geniusses think maybe that's a good place to export a mov to drag into Encore? Apparently not, Who is your dev lead? FIRE THEM.

Encore is not an image processing program. Encore is not an NLE. Encore is a DVD authoring application that happens to also have a minimal SlideShow function.

Do all of your image processing in Photoshop. Re-size there. Change the orientation there. Set your PAR there. Color correct there. Prepare them completely there, BEFORE you Import the first Asset.

Now, I also have a complaint - Encore will not do my accounting for me. Quicken and Quickbooks do a good job, but I want to use Encore and it will not do even the most simple bookkeeping. What's up with that? Man, I paid big bucks for the entire Adobe Production Studio - not one program out of that suite will do my bookkeeping. Wow, am I miffed. I want my money back... Also, it s*cks as a word processor too, not to mention spreadsheets.

umm, this was a funny response, and I had a long spiel, but you enjoy your koolaid....

bottom line was I finished the slide show in FREE iphoto and iMovie, then I imported it into PURHASED ENCORE and it crashed (after taking an hour to transcode). I tried running it again, and it retranscoded everything (a defect) and crashed AGAIN. Then I dragged all the files into FREE iDVD and got a funcitonal DVD the first time out. I also had access to far better templates in iDVD. The Encore ones were kind of 1997....got some work to do in the mac area, looks like...when companies make promises from software and hardware that you PAY MONEY for and dont deliver, its kind of a problem....one that doesnt need peanut gallery remarks....

Take a look at the title you chose for this thread, and the tone of your OP.  If you were asking for help, that didn't really come across in your message.  It seems to be more of a rant.  Even your most recent post seems to be more comments rather than a request for help.  So it's no surprise that the "peanut gallery" here thought it was OK to comment as well.

Note: I got the first "draft" of your most recent response via email.  As a forum moderator, I thank you for editing your post and making the current version much more civil.

If you are having problems with Encore, then there are a lot of smart folks here who can help you out.  I think it's great that iMovie and iDVD did just what you needed and allowed you to finish your project.  There's nothing that those 2 programs can do, however, that Encore can't.  (Except maybe provide templates that you like better. )  If you want help, we can try to find out why you had trouble in Encore with this project.  Maybe we can get it working, and maybe not.  Encore is not as stable or mature as it should be, but it is very capable and most issues can be worked around.  Let us know.

That's cool. Glad that something worked for you. In my business, I need programs that work for me. Since Encore has done just that, with no hiccups over hundreds of Projects (most fairly complicated) and many thousands of finished, delivered and approved DVD's, there must be something to the program, at least in my studio.

When people have issues, they normally break down this way, and in almost always this order:

                1.) Assets

                2.) System

                3.) Project set up

                4.) OE

5.) Bugs in Encore, which have proved to be miniscule compared to almost any program out there, and not just DVD authoring programs.

Hey, it works perfectly for me. It has for years. It has for more Projects than I can count. It does 99% of what I could possibly want in a DVD. Now, I know to prepare my Assets, as Encore is only an authoring program with a limited SlideShow function. I use the tools that are required and never have any issues. Other than maybe having my Kool-Aid® Zinfandel flavored, can't think of much more to ask for. Sorry that it does not do for you what you wish for it to do. At this point, I'd be looking elsewhere too.

                Good luck with your purchases,

BTW there was no humor intended. Still, I'm glad that you found some.
