    Not Closed...multi session error

    pcford Community Member

My media house tells me I am giving them multi-session...session not closed masters...I have done a search and can find evidence of this happening to others but I have found no answer to the problem.

Encore may not be closing the session after the burn...

Have you tried exporting a DVD image or DVD folder, and then using the free ImgBurn to burn it to DVD?

I have seen this suggestion and I will try it.

But why would Encore not close a session? How do I change this?

Why? No sure that any of us know. This seemed to start with the CS3 release. My *guess* would be that it possibly could have something to do with the beginning of the DL'ing from PrPro & Encore. It still seems to be part of the scheme, and now DL'ing is even more refined.

Remember, these are totally wild guesses, and may be totally coincidental.

Most have found complete success with Jbowden's suggested workflow. I would be nice if someone from the Encore development team would comment, but I've not seen any, nor do I really expect to see them.

              Good luck,

It would definitely be better if you could send DLT tapes to replication instead of written discs - there is much less chance of anything going wrong that way. All DLT masters should also be accompanied by a written disc as a reference, but it's not a great idea to use written discs as production masters.

I have to say I have never heard of this.  DLT...those are the tapes which used to be used for backup right? Would just just a external hard drive be a more contempory solution?

                    Yep - them's the ones.

Type III/XT are the cheaper options, although harder to get these days.

An external HDD would onl;y be a solution if the replication house will accept this.

Ok, I downloaded ImgBurn. I created another disc and used Imgburn to check it. It showed a two session incomplete (unclosed) disc. Encore seems to write the disc twice...shows a message "writing disc 2 of 1." I burned at 4x.

The problem is that some players won't play unclosed sessions. To make things more confusing, I checked a old disc; it was a single and properly closed.

I understand that I can use Imgburn to create the disc, but it seems absurd that I should have to use a work-around to do this!\

I have attempted to call Adobe support but hung up after 40 minutes on the phone.

Needless to say, I am not speaking highly of Adobe.

Can you make a closed session disc using ImgBurn from an Encore DVD folder or image? If so, that's your immediate workaround.

btw, I don't believe that this problem is a generic one in Encore, but is related to the amount of data or the format (-R vs +R).

                          I believe I can...

The amount of data is 1.92G. Using a DVD-R

But this is really ridiculous. I have been trying to get an answer to this for HOURS. Adobe is ZERO help. I have spent 40 minutes on hold with support before giving up. The most help I have received is from people like you that confirm that, yes, there is a problem but no, Adobe does not seem to care.

The problem is that some players will balk at playing an unclosed session DVD. I would not know about this if the media house had not told me. They can close the session...but WHY should they have to???!!!

There is a problem. I see it; others see it. Why can't Adobe see it?! I pay hundreds of dollars for decent software and I ain't getting it.

Ok, with regard to the suggestion is related to the typed of disc blank...I burned a DVD+RW. This ImgBurn tells me that it is a closed session.

I note that the incomplete sessions seem to record twice. In other words, Encore says it is burning 1 of 1 discs. It then says it is burn 2 of 1 disc. This DVD+RW did not do this.

By the way, I am using Verbatim DVD-R.
