Got a link?
Which anchors don't work as expected?
The side menu on the home page; first menu item is "the equineGenie difference". The submenu items there are all supposed to link to anchors. (I also can't figure out how to change the width of the menu, as you can tell)
Thanks so much for looking at it for me.
bump. Any ideas?
<li><a href="#">breed/age/use specific</a></li>
<li><a href="#">breeding stallions</a></li>
<li><a href="#">show horses</a></li>
<li><a href="#">automated health</a></li>
The # in the href are not anchors. They are merely null links. That is, they
create a link in the browser (and the cursor changes to a hand to indicate a
link is present but the link does not point anywhere). So if I click on it,
it will do nothing.
A true anchor needs a page reference then a # then the name of the anchor,
Where "introduction" is the name of the anchor found on the page named
How are you creating your anchors?
How are you linking to them from the parent page?
Thanks, John. Actually, the area you highlighted I hadn't tried to hook up to anchors yet as I don't have any content in those areas.
So this is where my problem is (as it's the only section I did before I hit this problem):
<li><a href="theEquineGenieDifference.html#ERP">ERP management system</a></li>
<li><a href="theEquineGenieDifference.html#predictivemodeling">predictive modeling</a></li>
<li><a href="theEquineGenieDifference.html#intelligentfinance">intelligent finance</a></li>
<li><a href="theEquineGenieDifference.html#resourceoptimization">resource optimization</a></li>
<li><a href="theEquineGenieDifference.html#heuristiclearning">heuristic learning</a></li>
To answer your question on how I am creating the anchors, I am using CS3, so I use the anchor icon (click where I want the anchor, then click on the anchor, then name the anchor).
How I am linking to them is by putting the anchor name followed by # in the "link" field in the menu properties.
When I view the site in preview mode, the links work, but the page name comes up as Text#predictivemodeling and Text#ERP, etc. When I view my site live the links don't work at all.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Crikey, they seem to be working now. I didn't change anything. What the heck???
Those are anchors are all working fine. They're coded correctly.
The browser is jumping to the correct anchor in the destination page however
it's running out of page content so it cannot scroll far enough down the
page to reach the anchor.
The browser will scroll down and stop at either a) the anchor, or b) the
bottom of the page, whichever comes first.
Also, that image "truck&trailer%20small.png" on
http://juliapattononline.com/theEquineGenieDifference.html needs to be
renamed and optimized.
Renaming - avoid spaces and special characters such as "&" in file names.
Try "truck-and-trailer-small.png" or "truck_and_trailer_small.png".
Optimized - the image filesize is 4.565MB or 4,565KB. A photo that size
should be no more than 20-30KB.
Go back to Fireworks and *export* it as a JPG or PNG (rather than Save As
the native FW file then uploading it, which is what I think you've done).
Thank you so much, John, I'll fix that photo.
Any ideas how to change the menu width?
I have also found that if you are using IE8 beta, the anchors don't work. It will take you to the main page, but not to the anchor if it is below the open window. It created a few problems and I am back to IE7. This could have been fixed as I reported a bug.

I see you've started another thread on menu width so I'll regard this thread
